## [Memorizations](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#memorizations)

### What is Memorize By Heart?

Memorize By Heart is a text memorization app for web, iOS, and Android. Add a speech, poem, scripture passage, or script, practice with active recall games, and use spaced repetition to review it over time.

### How many memorizations does the free version of the app allow?

3 personal memorizations on the free plan.

### Why is the website not syncing to the mobile app?

Try these steps:

1. Sign in with the same account/provider on every device.
2. If you use email/password, verify your email address.
3. In Settings, turn off Browser-only storage on the web or Offline mode on mobile if you want your changes to sync across devices.
4. Check the same account on the website: [https://memorizebyheart.app](https://memorizebyheart.app/).
5. If the memorizations still do not line up, email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app).

### Does cloud sync require Premium?

No. Signed-in users can sync personal memorizations, including the 3 allowed on the free plan. Use the same account on each device and verify your email on mobile. Browser-only storage on the web and Offline mode on mobile keep personal data on that device instead of syncing it.

### How long can the memorizations be?

There is no strict hard cap, but very long texts can slow down older devices and become harder to practice well. For longer works, split them into smaller memorizations or clear chunks/scenes.

### What types of things can I memorize?

Poems, scripture, speeches, lyrics, presentations, and scripts all work well. The app works best when your material has a clear sentence, line, or dialogue structure.

### Why are my memorizations deleted? Where did they go?

Usually they were not deleted. The most common cause is being in a different account, storing personal data only in one browser, or expecting a shared copy from a different profile.

If you deleted your account, private memorizations are removed, while public Library items you published stay public.

### How do I play the games?

Every game has built-in instructions. Open a game and tap/click the question mark or instructions area at the top to see how that mode works.

### When is a text considered memorized according to the app?

There is not a permanent "done forever" state. Your Mastery Score comes from your highest score on Evaluate games. In group leaderboards, 90%+ mastery counts as mastered.

### How does the spaced repetition work?

New memorizations start with a first review about one day later. After that, the base cadence is 1, 3, 7, 18, 45, then ongoing 120-day maintenance reviews. Premium users can set a target due date, and the app redistributes the earlier intervals to fit that goal. On a due review day, the first scored Solidify or Evaluate game is what counts: 75%+ on Solidify or 50%+ on Evaluate advances you, very low scores bump you back, and Familiarize games stay practice-only.

### Can I practice smaller sections or chunks instead of the whole text?

Yes. Premium users can focus on one chunk or a range of chunks instead of the whole memorization. For long text, blank lines give the cleanest chunk boundaries. Scripts also support chunked practice through their parsed dialogue/action structure.

### My default language is not working

Open the memorization in the editor and make sure that memorization has the correct locale selected. Your default language only affects new memorizations created on that device. If the locale is correct and playback or scoring is still wrong, report a bug.

## [Games](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#games)

### What games are available and what is the best order?

Long-text memorizations use 9 core games. Familiarize: Tap to Reveal, Slider, Listen. Solidify: First Letter, Fill in the Blank, Scramble. Evaluate: Type It, Multiple Choice, Speak. For scripts, web adds Run Scene as a tenth game; mobile replaces Speak with Run Scene. Mobile calls Fill in the Blank “Blanks” and Scramble “Reorder.” Voice games depend on language and device support. Start with Familiarize, then Solidify, then Evaluate.

### Which games are easiest for getting started with a new text?

Start with Tap to Reveal, Slider, and Listen. These are lower-pressure games designed to help you absorb wording, pacing, and structure before higher-accuracy challenges.

### How does Tap to Reveal work?

Tap anywhere in the text area to reveal the next section. You can switch reveal mode (phrase, sentence, or word), and optionally enable text-to-speech to hear what you reveal.

### How does Slider work?

Slider hides letters and words using controls for word visibility and letter visibility. You can choose random/start/end/custom word modes, select custom words to hide, and reveal text as needed to adjust difficulty.

### How does Listen work?

Listen reads your memorization out loud with speech synthesis. Use play/pause plus speed and voice settings to match your preferred practice rhythm while following the highlighted text.

### How do First Letter and Type It differ?

First Letter is a Solidify game focused on recalling word initials with optional full-word support. Type It is an Evaluate game: Easy checks initials, Medium uses first-letter hints while you type every word, and Hard asks you to type every word with no hints.

### How do Fill in the Blank and Multiple Choice differ?

Fill in the Blank hides selected words in context and asks you to choose the correct options to complete blanks. Multiple Choice hides the full text and has you rebuild it word by word by selecting the correct option each step.

### How does Scramble work?

Scramble shuffles sentences or word groups. Drag and drop items into the correct order, then tap Done to check your result.

### How do Speak and Run Scene work?

Speak uses speech recognition to compare your spoken recitation against the source text, and lets you edit transcript mistakes before scoring. Run Scene is script-focused: choose your role, hear partner cues, and speak your hidden lines in context.

### Do all games affect spaced repetition and mastery?

No. Familiarize games are for low-pressure learning and do not move your review schedule. Scored Solidify and Evaluate games are the ones that affect review progression, and Evaluate games are the ones that can raise your Mastery Score.

### Do I need to complete the whole text in one game session?

No. You can practice in smaller ranges/chunks and build up over time. The app tracks progress so partial practice still contributes to long-term memorization.

## [Progress, Streaks & Rewards](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#progress-streaks-and-rewards)

### What counts toward my streak?

Completing any memorization game counts toward your streak, including Tap to Reveal, Slider, Listen, First Letter, Blanks, Scramble, Type It, Multiple Choice, Speak, and Run Scene.

### What happens if I miss a day on my streak?

If you miss a day, your current streak resets the next time you complete a game. Your memorization progress, Mastery Score, XP, Memorization Points, and badges do not disappear.

### My streak did not update after I practiced. What should I do?

Make sure you finished the game, not just started it. If your streak still looks wrong, email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app) with your account email, device, timezone, the game you played, and when you completed it.

### Where can I see my streak history?

You can see your streak history in your profile under the History tab.

### Do I need a high score to keep my streak?

No. A completed game counts toward your streak regardless of score. Scores still matter for mastery, review progress, challenges, and game results.

### What is XP?

XP is your account-wide record of learning effort. You can earn XP by completing games, keeping streaks, finishing challenges, and earning some badges.

### What are Memorization Points?

Memorization Points are tied to a specific memorization. They increase as you practice that memorization and complete related goals.

### What is Mastery Score?

Mastery Score is your 0-100 recall score for a memorization. It is based on your highest score on Evaluate games.

### What is the difference between XP, Memorization Points, and Mastery Score?

XP tracks your overall account activity. Memorization Points track effort on one memorization. Mastery Score is based on your highest score on Evaluate games.

### What are challenges?

Challenges are focused goals for a specific memorization. They are designed to help you learn your memorization. Sometimes you will get a special Level Up Challenge that lets you advance to the next level.

### Do I have to claim challenge rewards?

No. Challenge rewards are added automatically after a qualifying completion is accepted.

### Why did my challenge progress reset?

Some consistency challenges require consecutive days. If you miss a day on that kind of challenge, the challenge progress can reset. If something does not look right, email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app).

### What are badges?

Badges help you track accomplishments and achievements for milestones like streaks, XP, mastery, community actions, events, and feature use.

### Do badges unlock features?

No. Badges are for tracking and celebrating accomplishments. Premium features are based on your subscription.

### Can other people see my badges?

Only you can see your badges. To see your badge history, click the badge icon in the top right, or go to the History tab in your profile.

### Where can I see my XP, badges, and challenge history?

You can see your progress history in your profile under the History tab. Some quick stats may also appear near the top-right profile area.

### Why did I earn XP but not Memorization Points?

Some rewards apply to your account only, like streak rewards or certain badges. Memorization Points are tied to practice or goals for a specific memorization.

### Can I earn XP from the same game more than once?

Yes. Completing the same game again can still earn XP and Memorization Points.

### Can I still earn rewards if my memorization is already mastered?

Yes. You can keep practicing, earning XP, gaining Memorization Points, completing challenges, and collecting badges.

### Do free users get streaks, XP, challenges, and badges?

Yes. These progress and reward features are available to free users too. Premium still unlocks things like unlimited memorizations, uploads, chunking, custom due dates, advanced filters, and creating groups.

### Will my streaks, XP, badges, and challenge history sync across devices?

When you are signed in and Browser-only storage is off, your progress syncs across supported devices. If something does not look right, email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app).

## [Library](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#library)

### What is the Library?

The Library is the app’s shared catalog of public memorizations. You can browse top downloads, search by title or author, search by tags, and add items to your own list. It is currently in beta.

### Who can use the Library?

You need to be signed in to browse and add Library memorizations. Browser-only storage does not block the Library; personal copies you add are saved in the browser instead of syncing to your account. Publishing your own memorization requires premium and a verified email.

### How do I publish my memorization to the Library?

Open the memorization editor, turn on Publish to Library, and complete the publish checklist. Publishing is irreversible: the public Library copy stays public even if you later remove it from your personal list. Only publish content you own or have the legal right to share.

### Can I add a Library memorization to my personal list or a group?

Yes. You can add Library items to your personal memorizations, and if you are an owner or admin of a group, you can also add them directly to that group.

### How do I report copyrighted or inappropriate Library content?

Email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app) with the title and enough detail for us to find the Library item.

## [Groups](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#groups)

### How do groups work?

Groups are shared practice spaces. Members can work on the same group memorizations, admins can manage access, and each shared memorization can have its own leaderboard.

### Can free users use groups?

Yes, but with limits. Free accounts can join up to 1 group. Premium is required to create groups, and premium users can create up to 6 groups and join unlimited groups.

### How do I join a group?

Use a group ID or an invite link. Your request goes to the group admins for approval before you become an accepted member.

### How do group leaderboards work?

Leaderboards are tracked per shared memorization. Members are ranked first by Memorization Points, with Mastery Score and practice progress used as supporting stats. Admins can choose whether accepted members can see leaderboard stats, and 90%+ mastery counts as mastered.

### How large can a group be?

A group can have up to 18 accepted members and up to 100 shared memorizations.

## [Premium](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#premium)

### What does premium unlock on the web app?

Premium unlocks:

- Unlimited memorizations
- File uploads for text, PDFs, and image OCR
- Chunking and section-range practice
- Custom target due dates
- Advanced review filters
- Library publishing
- Up to 6 created groups and unlimited group memberships
- Choose browser-only storage on the web

### How much does the premium version cost?

The prices are on the [pricing page](https://memorizebyheart.app/pricing). There are 3 ways to pay: Monthly, Yearly, and one-time Lifetime.

### Is there a one-time payment option or only subscription?

Yes there is a one-time payment option. It is called lifetime.

### Can I upload files instead of pasting text?

Yes, with premium. Web uploads support text files, PDFs, and images. Images use OCR, so clearer scans and photos usually produce better results.

### Can I set a custom target due date?

Yes, with premium. The app uses that target due date to rebalance the earlier review intervals so your spaced-repetition path fits the deadline you chose.

### Who is my payment with?

iOS = Apple App Store. Android = Google Play. Stripe = website payments.

### How do I cancel my subscription?

If you bought the app through iOS, you have to cancel it with Apple. [Read how here.](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202039)
If you bought the app through Google Play, you have to cancel it with Google Play. [Read how here.](https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en)
If you bought the app through the website, [Go to my account page](https://memorizebyheart.app/settings).

### I bought premium, but my memorizations aren't showing or syncing. What can I do?

Try these steps:

1. Sign in with the same account/provider on every device.
2. If you use email/password, verify your email address.
3. In Settings, turn off Browser-only storage on the web or Offline mode on mobile if you want your changes to sync across devices.
4. Check the same account on the website: [https://memorizebyheart.app](https://memorizebyheart.app/).
5. If the memorizations still do not line up, email [support@memorizebyheart.app](mailto:support@memorizebyheart.app).

## [Account](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#account)

### Why is there an option to sign up? What is the purpose?

An account ties your memorizations, purchases, Library access, and group memberships to you instead of just one browser. It also makes it easier to use the same profile across web and mobile.

### What platforms do you support?

Web, iOS, and Android.

### Do I need to verify my email?

If you sign in with email/password, yes. Verified email is required for groups and Library publishing, and it helps avoid sync confusion between devices.

### How do I delete my account and associated data?

Open Settings on web or mobile and use the Delete account action in the account area. That removes your personal account data and private memorizations. Public Library items you already published remain public.

## [Actors & Scripts](https://memorizebyheart.app/faq#actors-and-scripts)

### How does Memorize By Heart parse a script memorization?

The parser reads your script line-by-line and converts it into ordered blocks. It looks for:

1. Speaker cues on their own line (best in ALL CAPS).
2. Dialogue lines directly under that cue (multiple lines are grouped together).
3. Stage directions/action lines (scene headings, transitions, and non-dialogue lines).

Parentheticals between cue and dialogue are attached to that dialogue. If a cue looks ambiguous (like title case), the app can still parse it but may show a warning so you can review before practicing.

### What formatting gives the best script parsing accuracy?

For the cleanest parse:

- Put each speaker name on its own line.
- Keep speaker names consistent (for example, always use MRS. KELLER, not sometimes Mrs. Keller).
- Put dialogue on the lines immediately after the speaker cue.
- Keep stage directions on separate lines. You can prefix with `!` to force a line as action.
- Use `@Name` if you need to force a mixed-case cue as a speaker.

### How does Run Scene work once my script is parsed?

Run Scene builds a turn-by-turn rehearsal from your parsed script. You pick one focused role (your character). Partner lines and action cues are spoken by text-to-speech, while your focused lines stay hidden until you speak them from memory. Your transcript is then semantically scored against the original line, and the game updates your Run Scene score and memorization progress.

### How should actors set up scripts to learn lines faster?

Recommended actor setup:

1. Clean your script format first (clear cues, dialogue under cues, action lines separated).
2. Set your role as the focused speaker so only your lines are scored.
3. Start with chunk ranges for one scene/beat at a time, then expand.
4. Keep “show next context” on while learning, then reduce context as recall improves.
5. Tune partner/action voices and speech rate so cue timing matches how your scene actually flows.

This keeps Run Scene close to real rehearsal: hear cues, deliver hidden lines, get immediate feedback, then repeat.
