Speak Game Guide: Rehearse Out Loud

Use Speak to recite your passage, clean up the transcript, and see color-coded misses so you can polish phrasing and pacing.

Game Guide4 min

Speak is the final rehearsal inside Memorize By Heart. You speak your passage aloud, watch the transcript appear, clean up any speech-to-text quirks, and then see exactly which words you nailed or missed. Use it to turn memorized text into confident delivery.

Quick start (2 minutes)

  1. Open your Memorization and choose Speak.
  2. Tap the red mic to start listening. Recite a short section (1–3 sentences) at a steady pace.
  3. Watch the transcript fill the text area. Fix any obvious misheard words before you tap Results.
  4. Review the accuracy score and color-coded comparison. Tap Recite again to rerun the same section or Back to pick another chunk.

How Speak listens and scores

  • Difficulty hints: Easy shows the first letter of every word, Medium alternates first letters with blanks, and Hard removes hint text for full recall.
  • Live transcription: Speak uses your Memorization’s language (or your default) to capture what you say. You can type directly in the box to correct the transcript before scoring.
  • Color-coded review: In the comparison view, missing or different words show in red with an underline; extra words you added show in green. Perfect lines stay neutral.
  • Chunk-aware scoring: Accuracy is calculated per word against the selected chunk. The more of the chunk you cover, the more your overall progress moves.
  • Reusable pass: From the results screen, tap Recite again to immediately re-run the same text without reloading the game.
  • Best in Chrome: If you see a support warning, switch to the latest Chrome—other browsers may block speech recognition.

A repeatable Speak routine

  1. Warm up tiny: Choose one paragraph. Hit record and speak it slowly, pausing briefly at commas. Stop, scan the transcript, and fix any obvious speech-to-text slips.
  2. Score and spot gaps: Tap Results. Note any red underlines (missed words) and green inserts (fillers you added). Go back and reread that sentence on-screen once.
  3. Pace to performance: Recite the same paragraph again at your target tempo. Aim for 95%+ accuracy with no green filler words.
  4. Chain forward: Add the next paragraph and repeat. When two adjacent paragraphs both score 95%+, run a full-section Speak to confirm continuity.

Mic habits that boost accuracy

  • Position quietly: Hold the phone 6–8 inches from your mouth or keep your laptop mic unobstructed. Avoid rubbing the mic or covering it with your hand.
  • Enunciate punctuation: Slightly pause on commas and end-of-sentence rises; Speak picks up those beats and scores word order more cleanly.
  • Match the language: If you are practicing a different language, set the Memorization locale first so speech recognition expects the right sounds.
  • Stay consistent: Use the same room and volume for repeat passes; background changes can cause unnecessary transcript edits.

Pair Speak with other games

  • Proof after typing: Type it → Speak. Typing locks the wording; Speak confirms you can say it fluidly without looking.
  • Ear-to-mouth loop: Listen once at study speed, then Speak the same chunk. If accuracy drops, replay Listen and shadow before another Speak pass.
  • Order rescue: Tap to Reveal troublesome sentences, then Speak just that slice until red underlines disappear.

Troubleshooting

  • Mic not supported: If you see a browser warning, switch to Chrome or update your current browser; Speak relies on built-in speech recognition.
  • Transcript looks off: Stop recording, manually fix the text, and then hit Results. Slowing your pace slightly often reduces bad substitutions.
  • Accuracy stuck below 90%: Shorten the chunk, rehearse once with Listen, and Speak again. Remove filler words that keep showing up in green.
  • Noise spikes: Close other apps using the mic, face a soft surface to reduce echo, and keep steady distance from the microphone.
